Rebase, Reline, Repair

Dentures that are broken, worn or poorly-fitting do not always need to be replaced. Your Denturist can immediately determine if you are a candidate for rebase, reline or repair. In those cases where repairs are needed, most often your Denturist can offer same-day service.

Rebase

In those cases when the denture teeth have not worn as thoroughly as denture base material, rebasing is often a solution. This is a process of retrofitting dentures by replacing the acrylic denture base, providing a stable denture that incorporates denture teeth.

Relines

Relines consist of adding new base material to the tissue side of a denture in order to make it fit properly. This process will require your Denturist to take an impression of your existing denture. Your appearance will not change; only the fit of the denture will. Relines are required when tissues change due to any of the following:

  • Loss of weight
  • Loss of teeth
  • Loss of bone
  • Aging
  • Disease or illness

Repairs

In most cases, an existing broken or cracked denture can be restored to its original state. These repairs may be necessary when breakage or chipping occur, when one or more teeth must be added to an existing denture after tooth extraction or due to wear and tear.  Most of these repairs can be completed in one day. When your denture requires repair, underlying problems such as age of the denture, worn teeth or poor fit may be the reason. Your Denturist can best explain how to prevent denture breakage.
