Removable Partial Dentures

Partials type and style

Partial dentures may be tooth-supported or tooth and tissue-supported. Because these types are significantly different, your Denturist should be consulted regarding those differences. Some of the factors that determine the style or type of denture are number of remaining teeth and the position and stability of those teeth. Partials are composed of various materials such as acrylics, a

metal/acrylic combination or flexible thermoplastics. Acrylic partials are generally used for transitional or temporary replacement of missing teeth.

The metal / acrylic partial (commonly called a cast partial) is generally a more rigid and permanent variety of denture.

Metal is either a chrome cobalt alloy or titanium, both of which are ultra thin, light and quite strong. New flexible thermoplastics have aesthetic and flexibility

advantages. They are all designed to be removable and should be removed nightly, in order to ensure a healthy oral environment.

Due to new designs, materials and techniques, the partials are more comfortable than ever before.

Your Denturist will be eager to show you the many available designs, some of which are virtually undetectable due to the lack of visible clasps.

Benefits of partials

One of the most noteworthy benefits of partial dentures is that they do not harm remaining natural teeth. Partial dentures may prevent natural teeth from shifting or drifting into spaces left by the loss of natural teeth. Natural teeth may in fact realize improved stability as a result of the partial dentures. Most importantly, you will look better, feel better and chew better with partial dentures!
